Rwanda: Restoring the dignity of women

On the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Rwandan population rejoiced that the dignity of women had been restored. At the national level, this ceremony took place in the Hindiro sector of the Ngororero district, in the west of the country.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Gertrude Kazarwa, had travelled to Ngororero for these festivities.

In her speech, the honorable Gertrude Kazarwa returned to the theme chosen this year which is ”women are precious”. From there, she placed particular emphasis on the importance and role of women in the development of Rwanda.

“Women are an essential pillar of our country’s development. We must combine efforts to eliminate all obstacles that still hinder gender equality. I take this opportunity to call on all authorities to work together to completely eliminate these obstacles,” she insisted.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies thanked the family who testified that they had overcome the conflict. She urged others living in conflict situations to do the same.

She said the Parliament, and in particular the Rwandan Women Parliamentarians Forum, will spare no effort to ensure that the dignity of women is deeply rooted in Rwandan society.

Western Province Governor Jean Bosco Ntibitura recalled the history that has hindered women’s freedom and development. He said past mistakes are being corrected.

“Through good governance that promotes the rights of everyone, especially those of women, they now play a role in all aspects of the country’s life, whether it be security, the economy, politics, and many others,” he rejoiced.

The Western Province Governor called for the eradication of obstacles to the full enjoyment of women’s rights. Here he cited gender-based and property-based violence, unwanted teenage pregnancies, and many others.

For her part, the president of the National Council of Women (CNF), Berancille Nyiramajwere, thanked the good leaders of the country for having restored the dignity of women and their presence in all areas of development.

“We women are stakeholders in the strategies to accelerate NST 2. We must work hard to accelerate the development of our country. We are committed to creating a capable and peaceful society, free from all divisions and conflicts,” she said.

International Women’s Day is a good opportunity to reflect on the value of women in the family and their participation in development.

As explained, International Women’s Day, celebrated every March 8 of each year, is a good opportunity to reflect on the value of women in the family and their participation in development.
